Rooted in Waynesboro
Growing Our Future
The Run the Valley 2022 medal series honors the beauty of Waynesboro, the surrounding Shenandoah Valley, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. With this artist medal collection, we want to honor the beautiful state of Virginia and it’s 4 distinct seasons. Run each race and collect winter, spring, summer and fall trees.
Why Rooted and What It Means…
Did you know Virginia ranks 11th in the country for forest cover with nearly 15 million acres or 62% forested land? In a society with ever increasing urbanization and development, doing our part to maintain the beauty of the area where we live and play is critical. Run the Valley and Waynesboro Parks and Recreation would like to honor you and your accomplishments in the 2022 race season in a unique way.
If you compete in all 4 races; Mad Anthony Mud Run, Park to Park ½ Marathon, Summer Extravaganza 5K, and the Fall Foliage 10K, we will plant a tree in your honor. With an average of 30 participants completing the series annually, we could be adding 30 native trees to our parks by fall. To take it a step further, we plan to make this a community day of tree planning and an annual tradition!
The Details
All series finishers, and any other runners who would like to participate will be invited to a “Rooted in Waynesboro” planting day at Coyner Springs Park. We will be establishing an RTV Runners Tree Garden. A plaque will be placed, naming each runner that finished the series, and thanking each for “Growing our Future” in Waynesboro and the Shenandoah Valley. This will be a family friendly community event.
So, what are you waiting for? Get signed up today starting with the Mad Anthony Mud Run, February 26, 2022.
